Aurillac, the French capital of umbrellas
Aurillac is the capital of the mountainous Cantal department in the Auvergne region and has been known as the capital of umbrellas in France since 1850. The Cantal is famous for its violent summer storms and spectacular lightning shows. The umbrellas they produce there are of the highest quality and the most innovative designs.
“Carré DELOS”
Gérard DELOS is the newest manufacturer in Aurillac and has won several awards for his designs, including the Médaille d’Or Concours Lépine 2004, since establishing his business in 2001. The Cantal region is famous for its artists and Gérard’s idea is to print artists’ paintings on umbrella canopies “turning the street into an art gallery”. The umbrellas are Teflon® coated, UV resistant and are designed not to turn inside out.
“SOFRAP Carré Zen”
Société Française de Parapluies was founded in 1986 from an older company Sauvagnat. SOFRAP makes two collections a year and their classic umbrellas are stocked by famous retailers such as Gallerie Lafayette. These elegant square umbrellas are less bold but no less beautiful.
I hope you enjoy the rain as much as I do with one of these umbrellas! |
